Thermal imaging offers an invaluable tool for diagnosing a wide range of equipment issues. CLS now utilizes thermal imaging as part of our diagnostics best practices. It allows us to detect problems such as blocked oil cooler passages, restricted oil flow areas, and hotspots in electric motors, motor windings, bearings, and other electrical components. Additionally, thermal imaging is highly effective in identifying worn or failing airend bearings that generate excessive heat.
At a recent customer’s facility in Texas, we successfully identified and resolved overheating issues by utilizing advanced thermal imaging technology. By scanning the cooler, we were able to pinpoint plugged passages that were restricting proper oil flow and causing inadequate cooling. Additionally, when we ran the thermal camera over the drive motor, we detected excessively hot windings, a clear indication that a failure was imminent.
Using the thermal camera, we provided the customer with a visual representation of the issues. This allowed them to understand the root causes and enabled us to implement effective corrective measures. As a result, we restored their unit to optimal performance, reducing both downtime and costs.
Our expertise in thermal imaging diagnostics ensures early detection of potential failures, minimizes operational downtime, and provides cost-effective solutions to maintain equipment reliability.
